Chef Rhasaan Fernandez has been cooking for 20 years, starting with his first job helping his mom with a family catering endeavor when he was 12. Growing up in San Francisco's Mission District, Rhasaan was exposed to an enormous variety of flavors and ingredients from diverse cultures and developed a love for local, organic and home garden-grown produce.
He worked his way through college as a line-cook and sous chef at restaurants and resorts in the Sierra Foothills and later returned to the North Bay to cook with Chef Dino Bugica at Santi in Geyserville. It was at Santi that he learned the traditions of Italian regional slow cuisine, butchery perfected, curing, preserving and charcuterie.
Before striking out on his own 3 years ago, Rhasaan was Sous Chef at Gather in Berkeley. In addition to Sam’s, Rhasaan runs Boffo Cart, his mobile street food and catering operations. He is a People’s Choice Award-Winning Chef.
